week 9 thing 23... and... I'm DONE!

For the past couple of weeks, I've been on library 2.0 and it was pretty interesting what I've learned. For the long journey, I've come to appreciate all of the offerings that the internet provides. For the most part, I will not really use most of the functions that web 2.0 provides. They are convenient, but unnecessary if you're just a casual web user. Those tech junkies, like me, might brush up on a few of those functions. However, it may only be due to the lack of resources from using a computer that isn't my own.

It was great getting updated on all of the tasks that the library 2.0 program brought up. Hopefully we can have another program like this in the future. I just wished it was more detailed.

Podcasts are fun for avid radio listeners and such. I've always been more of a newspaper/publication type of guy, so podcasts don't really interest me. Call me old fashioned, but I like reading the news instead of having it dictated to me. Podcasts could be fun for interviews and such, but radio has been doing this for years. I suppose podcasts are more convenient for everyone. Internet junkies all over the world will be able to become freelance "dj's" or what not. I love it, hahaha.


Ebooks are a great way to not go to the library. Since this is such a technology driven era, We're getting lazier and lazier to go anywhere. Besides, it takes up too much time to go to the library and what not. It's a good thing that books have been scanned and put on the internet. I hope that they scan all of the latest textbooks so us college kids won't be so broke anymore.

streaming videos on the net... are awesome. I could get really sucked into it, but unfortunately, time is of the essence. YOUTUBE is by far one of the most useful sites for entertainment. If i miss something that was on tv, someone probably caught it and uploaded it on youtube.

I had no idea that you could type up a word document online. OMG this makes me feel so... unattached to the world. Have I been away for too long? Now that I've found out... THAT IS AWESOME!!! It's a great tool for people that don't have a floppy or USB stick to save it to. Google automatically saves the files online so you can get to it later! It basically has all of the necessary features of typing up a document. I'm not sure if they have templates though, but that could be a nice addition. Although I'm not quite used to it because it really feels a webpage, so the temptation of adding HTML language is present. I guess you could say that once you get over that small little detail, this would be useful to all of our library patrons. Most of which are not too computer savvy and almost always run out of time while typing a document.

I also added some books onto my library thing. I like this because it actually gives you an idea of what other people like to read.CLICK HERE if you wanna check out my bare bone bookshelf.

So I've just read the library 2.0 perspectives. The one that caught my eye was when they were boasting about the possibilities of having a library 4.0. It basically describes a library as a normal thing that people go to, such as a grocery store or a gym. Once you're in the library, you will get a sort of spa treatment for your mind in order for you to go out into the world and be "creative" or what not.

I for one do not think that this is any way possible in my lifetime. The projections of such ideas were so bold that I don't believe that they'll ever materialize. As for library 2.0, it seems much more feasible and necessary at the moment.

Wikipedia is a website that I discovered a couple of years ago. I never knew that the concept of anyone contributing to it would work out as well as it did. Even with all of the good information that comes from it, there are still some of those people out there that want to screw around and post up wrong information. I wonder if wikipedia has a staff that goes through newly edited work to check for any false information.

This would be a useful tool for the library to use because it helps librarians to have access to enormous amounts of information. Most of the information comes from people that have studied on the subject or have a deep passionate knowledge about it. It's a lot better than those volumed encyclopedias that cost a fortuneI also heard from somewhere that wikipedia is giving encyclopedia britannica a run for their money.

I apologize for the empty blank white space around the picture. Theres only so much editing that I can do with MS paint. thats the only program that I have to work with at work. Haha. Theres a cool picture of my Mii character. A Mii character is from the new nintendo system the Wii. The site for the generator is here at http://prezwho.com/mii-generator-for-wii . It's pretty fun and I'm suggesting it for the next staff birthday pictures. South Park is sooo last year.

I just created a rollyo search engine for my blog. I never knew that such a website existed. It was actually a great experience because when i tested it out, I found everything that I wanted on the websites that I'm familiar with. I have permanently set a rollyo searchbar on my blog just in case anyone wants to search for anything that has to do with entertainment.

del.icio.us is a pretty good website that logs down all of the bookmarks that you would want. it's useful because rather than having the bookmarks only on one computer, you can access your bookmarks through any computer if you have your del.icio.us account. I see how the library could use this site to benefit the public. Instead of having them scavenge through the multitude of information that is the internet, they could go to our bookmarks and narrow down what kind of information they're looking for.

Technorati is cool because they're like a big brother of blogs. I wonder if they have access to mine right now... kind of scary.

week 5 thing # 11

So I usually go on web 2.0 stuff during my normal internet usage, but I never knew that they were considered web 2.0... Anyway one of my favorite sites from the list is YOUTUBE. I don't think I have to explain what you tube does because whenever you mention internet video... you automatically think of you tube. Ever since internet video started becoming more mainstream, we no longer need shows like America's Funniest Home Videos or what not. Youtube has such a large selection of random videos and clips from tv shows that it makes me wonder if we're still going to be watching tv in the future. Downloading and streaming videos is currently booming. Missed that episode of LOST? All you have to do now is log on and download it. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you don't have to work around the network's schedule anymore. Most of the entertainment is under your control. Here's a fun clip that I found off of youtube. bloglines is definitely cool. I signed up for some random RSS feeds. Most of them are geeky technological stuff because I'm a sucker for numbers. I got some music feeds which help me keep up with the pop culture. I already use the rss function on my yahoo homepage, so most of the information that i want pops up right when I open my browswer. heres the link to rss me. I just went to an online generator site that creates dummy books. I thought that this would be appropriate for the library 2.0 program. If I actually published it, I could make millions off of teenagers.

week 3 thing # 5, 6, 7

Yeah, thats me outside of your local target on 11/17/2006. I'm about to be one of the first people to get my hands on a PS3, and then sell it for a jacked up price. haha. I don't know about you all but I'm a total nerd when it comes to videogames. I guess its been instilled in me as a little boy, but I love videogames. So I was reading my daily's and I stumbled upon an article about how the xbox 360 is currently the market leader in America. I'm happy because I own an xbox 360, but in my heart, I've always sort of been a Sony FANBOY. I'm actually secretly wishing that Sony will come out on top in the end. I caved in and bought an xbox 360 because it was the most obvious choice taking into acount that its the cheaper next-gen system, it has all the games that I want to play, and it has the rumble feature (boo to Sony). welps, gotta get back to work now. see ya later.

Here's an old picture of my second motorcycle. It's a 2003 Yamaha R6. woot. I know what you're thinking, is it fast? If it looks fast, it probably is. haha. I don't know what else to say about this bike besides that it made me pretty happy during the summer months. You've never lived if you haven't been on a sport bike. So my suggestion of the day would be to go out there and RIDE!

Well, this is going to be my first post for the library 2.0 program. I'm not necessarily a "blog virgin", I've done this before, many times. I'm still trying to figure out how to pimp out my template so it can stand out because I told Angie that "It's on".
